You’re looking for people who care about what comes next.

You want partners who share your vision and values, bring real, relevant, experience, and who you can trust to protect and improve upon your business’s legacy by supporting you and your team.

who we are

Purpose, principles, people, and process define us.

We exist to build companies and empower teams that are solving environmental problems that matter to customers, communities, and landscapes.

We achieve exceptional, long-term outcomes within those areas via a clear set of principles that dictate our actions as partners, and bringing the right people, processes, and resources to the table to enable businesses and teams to succeed.

We believe in building companies with purpose.

We’re here to build things that matter, with people we respect, to help communities and landscapes we care about.

We believe that a clearly defined mission, ambitious goals, and motivated partners enable companies and teams to achieve exceptional long-term outcomes.

We also believe solving critical environmental problems isn’t mutually exclusive to financial returns for owners, investors, and employees. Instead, we believe that environmental problems are some of the most promising opportunities for companies to create meaningful value for customers via existing solutions and expertise.

Finally, we believe that clear purpose and lasting impact can come from solving today’s difficult real-world environmental problems through hard work and boots on the ground - not just the next new technology or research.

our core principles

Our decisions, actions, objectives, and partners are dictated by our principles.

01

AMbitious Goals, meaningful Outcomes.

Tackle imposing objectives that will forge lasting impacts on the communities we care about, even a century from now.

We’re quick to pass on actions that don’t support our goals, we balance long- and near- term risks, outcomes, and uncertainty, and spend little time wondering or replicating what others are doing - instead preferring to develop solutions specific to our goals. While we focus on significant goals, and avoid counterproductive tasks, we never confuse small steps for unproductive ones.

02

Unwavering progress, unyielding stewardship

Give our all every day, every task, to drive consistent wins and compounding success for the legacy, employees, communities, and resources entrusted to us.

We show up 100% every time - not just going through the motions, because we know making small, steady improvements compounds exponentially. We use data, process, and accountability to ensure our direction and consistency and consider all stakeholders with a commitment to understanding their perspectives fully. We bias to action and frame our decisions relative to maximizing identifiable, measurable impact for our stakeholders in addition to financial returns.

03

Earn Trust INDIVIDUALLY, achieve success collectively

"Day One" mindset - we work daily to earn the right to come back tomorrow and continue serving and winning as a team.

We earn our place through our actions, integrity, and improvement. This includes going above and beyond to support those around us, with no questions asked, no task too small, and no job too big. We always look to learn and grow; we come into the room a novice looking for why we might be wrong. We build trust through humility, self-critique, and speaking up as part of a team. We commit to operating as a unified unit, even during disagreements, mistakes, or setbacks. Ultimately we create teams that others want to be a part of and claim success because of that team.

04

Conviction, curiosity, humility

Form well-founded beliefs swiftly and be even faster in seeking information, guidance, and critiques that challenge and improve our understanding.

We develop solid beliefs via data, trusting our partners' expertise, articulating our stance, and embracing the humility to acknowledge uncertainty and potential errors. We challenge our beliefs by seeking new information and perspectives, testing, and keeping an open mind towards outcomes. We have zero-ego, bravado, or B.S. and distill our thoughts into clear, simple language with no lingo. We invite conflict and vigorous debate and never dismiss an opposing perspective. We are always pursuing new knowledge and maintain an awareness that we know very little and are wrong more than right.

05

Masterful Craftsmanship, Quiet Pride

Find unconditional fulfillment in unseen devotion to perfecting our craft, without seeking the spotlight or accolades

We're deeply committed to honing our skills and striving for exceptional outcomes, even if our hard work goes unnoticed. We never take ourselves too seriously, ensuring our work together is enjoyable. We never look to dazzle or distract others and instead prefer to invite them into our process as partners. We never look for recognition or the spotlight because our fulfillment isn’t based on external validation. We demand the same humility from those who represent us as advisors.

We’re led and advised by experienced operators and investors who’ve been there.

John “JB” BEyer

JB spearheads Sagebrush’s operations and is the guy you’ll hear when you give a call (our number is 435-800-0082, by the way).

Originally from Washington State, JB is the oldest of seven. His passion for heavy equipment, strong diner coffee, and the intersection of nature and industry can be traced back to his grandfather, whose civil and marine construction projects dot the pacific northwest, mountain west, and Alaska.

JB has spent the entirety of his career partnering with small businesses as an operator, advisor, and investor. Most recently, JB served as an investment team member and now as an operating advisor for Tuckerman Capital, an investment firm in New Hampshire that has invested in over 26 small businesses over the past 20 years. As an operating advisor, JB works with portfolio company leadership and functional teams to support the pursuit of strategic and operational initiatives, currently within wildfire mitigation and power sectors.

Principal

JB also worked as an operator at a privately held, investor-backed outdoor products company. He led operational improvement, strategic planning, and acquisition efforts as a direct report to the CEO and CFO. Before that, JB was an investor at an operationally focused lower-middle-market private equity firm. He completed five small business investments in environmental services, industrial services, and manufacturing industries and supported post-investment performance initiatives in collaboration with management teams. JB began his career at a Wisconsin-headquartered investment bank, Robert W. Baird, advising businesses on mergers and acquisitions in process controls, energy equipment, and water sectors.

JB holds a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce, where he was the Joseph Goldstein Scholar, and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where he was an Edward Tuck Scholar.

Outside the office, JB is a decent fisherman, a mediocre shot, and a passionate outdoorsman, especially when joined by the family black lab, Abby. JB currently resides in New Hampshire but still considers the mountain west home after spending nearly a decade in Utah and Colorado.
